Line Kills & Hydrant Rental Program
If you are working on a project that requires demolition of a building you will need to contact our office to discuss the need for meter removal from the property and for line kill on any active lines on that parcel of ground.
Ogden City requires that water laterals that are being modified be disconnected and plugged at the main. This process is referred to as a "line kill." Line kills are required on new development or expansion of existing development when a service is no longer going to be used or is greater than 6 years old. Any line to which demand is added to it, that requires an upsized line will also be required to be killed. Line sizing is performed through the City's Engineering Division and is required on new developments or expansions.
Performing Line Kills
The water utility will perform line kills on residential lines that are not within Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) right of way (although a licensed and bonded contractor can also perform this work). All others are to be killed by the owner's licensed and bonded contractor.
The following must be provided in order to have a line killed:
I hereby request that the water service line at the above address be killed. If the City is not performing the work, I hereby agree to complete the line kill in accordance with Ogden City standards within the next 90 days. I understand that if I fail to keep this agreement, the City may proceed with completing the work and I agree to pay all costs, fees and expenses incurred by the City to accomplish this work. Additionally, water service to the affected parcels and/or projects may be shut off until the lines are properly killed.
- All accounts served by the affected lateral must be current and closed and the meter requested to be removed from the property.
- A line kill fee of $750 per line must be paid to the Water Utility in cash or check.
- This "Request For Line Kill" must be completed and submitted to the Water Utility Office at least two days prior to the line kill work.
- For lines being killed by the property owner's contractor, a City and a UDOT permit (if applicable) must be provided to the Water Utility in order to schedule an inspection.
A demolition permit will not be issued unless the Line Kill requirements have been met. If you are working on a project that requires demolition of a building you will need to contact our office to discuss the need for meter removal from the property and for line kill on any active lines on that parcel of ground.
For each active line needing to be killed there is a fee of $750 that will need to be paid in our office by either cash or check. The property will be checked for outstanding balances due under the owners name, and those will also be required to be paid in full. A form authorizing the line to be killed will need to be signed for before the work can be scheduled or before authorization for demolition is given by building inspections division.
