Open Artist Calls
Nine Rails Creative District
Call for Artists
DEADLINE: October 5, 2018
DEADLINE: October 5, 2018
The Nine Rails Creative District in Ogden, Utah exists to support and encourage creatives, provide our community with new opportunities to engage with art in the public realm, and enhance the lives of our residents. We are also hoping to encourage creatives to live and work in the district. The Nine Rails Creative District Master Plan (officially adopted on August 14, 2018 by Ogden City Council) was set in place to guide future investment within the district in areas ranging from streetscape improvements, to public art projects, to new arts programming and events. The adoption of this plan ensures that the Creative District will continue to develop and strengthen Ogden’s art presence. To support implementation of the plan, we intend to fund several small public art projects that will occur in the district between October 2018 and June 2019.
The Nine Rails Creative District projects will consist of five, small, separate projects completed within the creative district boundaries. The goal of the project is to increase street-level activity and vibrancy in the newly adopted district. Additionally, the project is intended to increase public engagement with the arts and to continue establishing the identity of the Creative District.
Artists may submit proposals for one of the five separate projects that will be funded. Artists are limited to submit only one proposal for this call. Project submissions will be evaluated independently, graded for quality, feasibility, and project time constraints. Submissions will first be vetted by Ogden City for compliance with City Ordinances. City staff, Ogden City Arts Advisory Committee, and Ogden Downtown Alliance will then score the proposals. The five highest-scored submissions will be notified via email or by phone.
The projects are expected to be completed between October 2018 and June 2019, with the goal of selecting one or two projects that can be completed by the end of 2018. The projects should coincide with events that increase street-level activity in the area. (Examples: First Friday Art Stroll, Yeti Bash, Twilight Concerts, PLATFORMS event, and Farmers Market Ogden). Ogden City and its partners will promote the projects and encourage community members to visit the sites during installation and after completion.
A $1,000 artist honorarium will be awarded for each of the five selected projects. An initial payment of $500 will be made upon award and the final payment of $500 will be made once the project is complete. A single artist may not be selected for more than one proposal. The honorarium shall compensate the artist for the design, materials, and project installation/completion; no compensation beyond the honorarium shall be provided. If applicable the completed work may be removed by the City at an appropriate time to be determined at the City’s own discretion. For more information please open this document :
